WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team (8-3, 2-2 CC) suffered a narrow, 1-0 road loss to the McDaniel Green Terror (3-9, 1-4 CC) on Saturday, Oct. 9, snapping the Garnet's three-game winning streak.
Swarthmore controlled the ball for the majority of the contest, recording 11 penalty corners and eight shots on goal to three and one for McDaniel respectively. The difference-maker came just before the end of the first period as the Green Terror's Tenley Pelot received a pass from Yeseniah Ortiz and found the back of the net.
Trailing 1-0 after half, Swarthmore began the third period on the offensive as
Katherine Kohn and
Grace Fuselier registered shots in quick succession.
Deborah Kim and
Quinn Basewitz also took shots on frame, but could not beat McDaniel goalkeeper Mikayla Smith, who totaled eight saves on the afternoon.
Swarthmore continued to pressure McDaniel in the fourth, earning a pair of penalty corners in the closing minutes as it looked to equalize. McDaniel, however, withstood the offensive for its first conference win of the fall.
The Garnet look to bounce back on Wednesday, Oct. 13 when they host conference foe Washington College for a 5:00 p.m. game.
