HAVERFORD, Pa. - Swarthmore College Volleyball fell in a battle to Haverford College over the #2 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs.
The Garnet fell in three sets, but didn't go down without a fight as the third set was decided with a 32-30 score. In the third set, the Garnet tallied four of the first five points.
Kaylee Zhang recorded back to back service aces during that stretch. Trailing with Haverford serving match point,
Jordan Perry notched a kill to extend the match. The Garnet and Fords exchanged points until Haverford closed out the match with both teams tied at 30.
Zhang and Perry led the Garnet with 13 kills each, while Razdan added six kills.
Dani Pena tallied 35 assists and
Sierra Tyson led the way with 21 digs.
Perry added three service aces and ten digs, while
Grace Hegland contributed with five kills and two service aces. As a team the Garnet collected seven service aces.
With the loss, the Garnet (13-7, 8-2 CC) will be the #3 seed, while the Fords (22-4, 9-1 CC) will be the #2 seed. Both teams will return to the court on Saturday, at Johns Hopkins, in the semi-finals of the Centennial Conference postseason. In 2019, Swarthmore and Haverford battled it out in the opening round of the conference tournament. The Garnet won the match in a thrilling four set contest against their rivals.
