OT Winner Caps Rally, Regular Season for Garnet

HAVERFORD, Pa. - This team just finds a way.

After falling behind early in the second half to rival Haverford College, Swarthmore Men's Soccer rallied for a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory on the road in their final game of the regular season. With the win, the Garnet (11-3-2, 6-2-1 CC) clinched the fourth seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and will host fifth-seeded Gettysburg College on Tuesday.

The Fords got on the board first at 55:49 with a goal by Paul-Andre Coulibaly. Just over ten minutes later, Swarthmore responded when Brandon Cramblit netted his second score of the season on an assist by Woojin Shin. Shin now leads the Garnet with 11 points on the year.

In overtime, it was Oliver Garcia who set up the game-winner. With just over 70 seconds remaining in the period, Garcia dribbled a loose ball from in front of the Haverford net to the left corner of the penalty box and fired a cross towards the goal. After Bless Tumushabe's contested header was stopped by the diving Fords' keeper, Stathis Kalathias collected the rebound and booted it into the bottom right corner of the net for his second goal of the season. The score gave Swarthmore its fourth come-from-behind victory in 2021.

Tumushabe, who led the Garnet with three shots, was credited with an assist on Kalathias' goal. Swarthmore goalie Max Kral improved his season record to 8-3-1.

With the loss, Haverford finishes the regular season at 7-9-1 (4-5 CC).

The kickoff time for Tuesday's first-round Centennial Conference playoff tilt at Clothier Field Stadium will be announced on Monday, November 1. The winner of Tuesday's matchup will travel to Johns Hopkins University to take on the No. 23 Blue Jays on Friday.
