SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Women's Soccer earned a shut out victory over Dickinson College in Centennial Conference action as they celebrated Senior Day on Saturday evening at Clothier Field Stadium.
The Garnet, who defeated Dickinson 1-0, move to 8-3-2 and 5-2-1 in conference play, and the Red Devils fall to 9-5 and 4-4. Prior to the game, the women's soccer program honored its six graduating seniors in
Amy Harris,
Ally Scheve,
Lulu Wilson,
Charlotte Pohl,
Samantha Barnes and
Chantal Reyes.
Each team had plenty of chances to score, but were unable to capitalize until
Anwyn Urquhart scored the games only goal in the 73rd minute. The junior took the ball from just inside the box, dribbled it a few times and fired the shot to the lower right of the net as she was falling down.
In the final minutes, Lillan Keller made two crucial saves on a pair of shots from Sarah Cudmore.
Amelia Mounts led the Garnet with three shots, while
Megan Ruoff added two.
Abby Chang,
Rebecca Putnam and
Allie Zitelli tallied a shot for Swarthmore.
With tonight's victory, head coach
Todd Anckaitis earned his 200th career victory at the helm of the Swarthmore College Women's Soccer program. Anckaitis earned his first victory back on September 3rd, 2005 with a 1-0 decision over Earlham.
Swarthmore currently sit in third place of the Centennial Conference table, behind Johns Hopkins and McDaniel. The Garnet will take on Bryn Mawr on Tuesday at 3:30 pm before closing out the regular season at Haverford on October 30th.
