SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Field Hockey shut out Dickinson College, 1-0, on Senior Day at Clothier Field Stadium on Saturday.
Prior to the game, the field hockey program honored its four seniors in
Chelsea Semper,
Emily Hapgood,
Samantha Meacock and
Aron Lankford.
Meacock scored the games only goal as the Garnet took down the Red Devils in Centennial Conference action. The Garnet held most of the possession in the third frame as they recorded ten shots, and the final shot of the quarter broke the scoreless tie. In the 42nd minute,
Callie Cho fired a shot but was unable to get it by keeper, Saige Stevens.
In the first quarter, Meacock looked to open the scoring but was stopped by Stevens after a Garnet corner. Swarthmore tallied ten penalty corners. The fourth quarter saw
Martina Kampel try to sneak one by Stevens. Kampel tallied five shots, while
Katherine Kohn added three shots and Cho added two.
Grace Twitchell and Hapgood each had a shot for Swarthmore.
Lankford earned the victory in the net as she recorded four saves for the Garnet.
The Garnet improve to 10-5 and 4-4 in conference play, while the Red Devils fall to 7-8 and 6-3. With the victory on Saturday, the Garnet sit in fifth place in the Centennial with two games to left to play. Swarthmore will return to the field on Wednesday as they travel to Bryn Mawr for a pivotal Centennial Conference game. The Garnet and Owls are set to battle at 4:00 p.m.
