CHESTERTOWN, Md. - No. 24 Swarthmore College Men's Soccer fought hard but was unable to overcome a two goal deficit as they fall to Washington College (Md.), 2-1, in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday night.

The Shoreman opened the scoring just 23-seconds into the game as Eric Gwadz scored from the left side. Gwadz found the back of the net to give Washington a two goal lead in the 66th minute. Matthew Loreg inched Swarthmore closer to tying the game as the sophomore tallied his first collegiate goal for the Garnet. After earning a corner kick, Loreg finished off a pass from Sean Nolan in the 79th minute. All four of the corners earned by the Garnet occurred in the second half.

A shot in the 83rd minute by Charley Ward sailed high over the net, and both Woojin Shin and Harrison Hotham had shots minutes later blocked by Washington defenders. Hotham, Shin, Ward and Antonio Callegari all recorded a pair of shots, while Harry Nevins, Conor Gill, Brandon Cramblit, Jason Meuth and Bless Tumushabe all added a shot.

The Garnet fall to 9-3-2 and 4-2-1 in CC play, while the Shoreman move to 9-4-1 and 4-2-1. Swarthmore will return to the pitch on Saturday as they host Dickinson College in their final regular season home game of the year. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
