SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Four different goal scorers led Swarthmore College Field Hockey to a dominate win over Gettysburg College, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Clothier Field Stadium.
The Garnet improve to 7-2 and 2-1 in Centennial Conference play, while the Bullets fall to 6-3 and 2-1.
After a scoreless first frame, Isabella Fraogmeni found the back of the cage in the 17th minute for Gettysburg. Less than two minutes later, the tables turned as
Katherine Kohn connected for her second goal of the season. Kohn took the ball from midfield on a breakaway, pulling Eliene Besselman out from the net and took a shot for the equalizer. As time began to wind down in the second frame,
Brooke Findlay tallied her second goal of the season and Swarthmore a 2-1 lead at half.
The Garnet didn't let go of the gas in the third frame as a
Samantha Meacock shot hit the foot of a Gettysburg defender on the goal line.
Chelsea Semper lined up to take the penalty stroke and extended the Swarthmore lead as the senior connected for her fourth of the season.
Jackie Crowley added an insurance goal in the 44th minute as the sophomore deflected an initial shot from Meacock off of a corner. Swarthmore held the advantage as they collected 12 shots and eight corners. The Bullets were held to nine shots and only three corners in the contest. In their last game, the Bullets knocked off #14 Franklin and Marshall, 2-1.
The Garnet return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Elizabethtown for their final non-conference title of the season. The game is slated to start at 4:30 pm.
