LANCASTER, Pa. - Swarthmore College Volleyball split matches at a Franklin and Marshall Tri-Match on Saturday. In the first match, the Garnet defeated F&M, 3-2, but fell to the University of Scranton, 3-0.
Swarthmore 3, Franklin & Marshall 2 (25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 17-25, 15-9):
The Garnet won the first two sets, but the Diplomats fought back to force a five set match.
Kaylee Zhang opened the match up with two service aces. Swarthmore scored of five of the six final points in the opening frame. A service ace by
Grace Hegland, and kills by Zhang and
Dani Pena accounted for three of those points.
In the fifth set, back to back kills by Zhang sealed the Centennial Conference victory for the Garnet. Zhang led Swarthmore with 15 kills, while
Chloe Mayhue added seven kills.
Trisha Razdan collected 13 digs and a solo block. Pena added a team high 27 assists against the Diplomats.
Scranton 3, Swarthmore 0 (26-28,18-25,22-25):
Against the Royals, Swarthmore was led by ten kills and five digs from Zhang. Razdan added seven digs and two kills, while Mayhue and
Alexa Bartlett added a block each. The Garnet tallied eight services aces in the match. Mayhue and Zhang added three as Hegland and
Sierra Tyson each recorded one.
Eight different players accounted for points in the three-set non-conference match.
Lucy Fetterman recorded four kills for the Garnet, while Pena and Mayhure each tallied three kills.
The Garnet move to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in Centennial Conference action. Swarthmore will host Ursinus College on Tuesday at 7:30pm in Centennial play.
