LANCASTER, Pa. - A pair of goals from
Conor Gill was not enough as No. 24 Swarthmore College Men's Soccer and Franklin & Marshall College finished with a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening.
Gill opened the scoring in the 22nd after a foul by the Diplomats. A free-kick by the Garnet resulted in the ball being bouncing around and Gill put it on net just inside the right post.
Just out of the half-time break, Gill struck again as the senior headed a ball in from the top of the box.
Oliver Garcia put the ball just over the defense, where Gill beat a diving Sam Altman Farrell.
Steven Yakita scored two unanswered goals (63rd minute and 81st minute) in the second half to tie the game for the Diplomats.
F&M recorded 21 shots, and
Max Kral tallied eight saves in net. Since 2013, the Garnet have only earned two points against F&M with both results being 2-2 ties. Garcia,
Charley Ward,
Woojin Shin,
Freddie Lin and
Brandon Cramblit all recorded shots for Swarthmore.
The Garnet move to 9-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in CC play, while the Diplomats fall to 10-2-1 and 3-2-1. Swarthmore, who ranks No. 24 in the latest poll, and F&M, who received votes in the most recent poll, remain in contention for a Centennial Conference postseason spot.
Swarthmore returns to the pitch on Wednesday as they travel to Chestertown, Md. for a CC showdown with Washington College (Md.). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
