LANCASTER, Pa. - Swarthmore College Field Hockey fell to Centennial Conference foe Franklin and Marshall College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Garnet got off to a hot start as
Jackie Crowley opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Crowley's goal came off of Swarthmore's second penalty corner of the opening quarter.
Carolina Riley tied the game at one goal in the 27th minute, and a little over a minute later Lauren Mumby gave F&M a 2-1 lead into half.
In the final frame,
Quinn Basewitz and
Grace Fuselier recorded back to back shots. Riley Klopp recorded a defensive save on Basewitz's shot. Fuselier's shot was blocked and earned the Garnet a penalty corner. Off of the ensuing penalty corner,
Martina Kampel fired a shot on goal but it was saved by Sydney Lippe.
The Garnet tallied ten shots and eight penalty corners. Fuselier, Kampel, Basewitz and Crowley all recorded a pair of shot for Swarthmore.
Grace Twitchell and
Samantha Meacock added shots in the contest.
Swarthmore falls to 9-4 and 3-3 in CC action, while F&M, who was receiving votes in the lastest national poll, improves to 6-6 and 2-4. The Garnet continue their challenging week as they host nationally ranked, No. 11 Ursinus College in Centennial Conference Play at 7:30pm.
