Volleyball Sweeps Away Washington

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College continued its winning way as they swept Washington College (Md.) on Wednesday evening at Tarble Pavlion. 

The three set victory by the Garnet was scored 25-13, 25-21 and 25-18 in favor of the home team. Swarthmore moves to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Shorewomen drop to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

After dropping the first point in the opening set, Swarthmore rallied seven consecutive points. Alexa Bartlett and Trisha Razdan collected kills as Kaylee Zhang earned a service ace. In the second set, Razdan tied the game at 9-9 and the Garnet never looked back. Swarthmore took the next five points from the Shorewomen with the help of kills from Zhang, Dani Pena and Erin Kaye. During that five point run, Zhang added another service ace.

In the final set, Razdan got in on the action by recorded a service ace to give Swarthmore 8-6 lead. Bartlett, Lucy Fetterman and Grace Hegland added kills during mid-set streak. Sierra Tyson recorded two straight service aces in the third set.

Tyson led the way with four service aces, while Zhang and Razdan added three each. Pena, who added a service ace, led the Garnet with 23 assists. Kaye and Bartlett collected a block each, while Zhang added 14 digs and seven kills.

Swarthmore will take on Franklin & Marshall College in a crucial Centennial Conference battle on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa. at 12:00 p.m. Both the Garnet and Diplomats enter the contest at 4-1 in league play. Swarthmore will take on the University of Scranton at 2:00 p.m. as part of the tri-match.
