Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Chang Reaches Century Mark As Garnet Beat Knights

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Senior Austin Chang became the sixth student-athlete in the 123-season history of Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse to reach 100 goals for his career after scoring six times in a win over Arcadia University on Wednesday night.

Swarthmore won Wednesday's home opener 17-8 and improved to 2-2. In addition to Chang's six scores, Jake Ross netted four goals, Ben Schaeffer recorded a hat trick, and Nathaniel Johns, Ryan Izquierdo, Quin Seivold and Will Vespole all scored a goal. Vespole added three assists to finish with a four-point night.

The Garnet wasted no time in getting on the board. Izquierdo won the opening faceoff and darted downfield, depositing the game's first goal just eight seconds after the opening whistle. The strike set the tone, and Swarthmore went on to a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Chang tagged his third of the match just before the buzzer.

Swarthmore's lead continued to swell in the second and reached 11-3 by halftime. Arcadia chipped away in the third quarter, but the Garnet again beat the buzzer as Ross netted his fourth goal of the contest.

Chang found his 100th career goal with 5:08 to play, launching a sidewinding shot from the left side off the feed from Zander Levitz, and set Swarthmore ahead 16-8.

Swarthmore dominated the faceoff portion of the game, going 21-for-27. Izquierdo finished 17-for-22 and clamped 10 ground balls himself. Freshman Will Bernstein went 4-for-4 with three ground balls.

In goal, Frankie Dillon recorded 11 saves and freshman Jack Ballou added another in the game's final five minutes.

Swarthmore beleaguered the Knights with 61 shots while only allowing 24 from the visitors.

The Garnet are back at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Elizabethtown.
