SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College Women's Basketball celebrated senior day with a Centennial Conference battle against Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at Tarble Pavilion.
After trailing at half-time 33-28,
Faith Nation scored four of the first six points in the third quarter. The Diplomats extended the lead to 41-34, forcing the Garnet to call a full time out. Out of the huddle,
Kendall Tribus found
Kim Kockenmeister for a mid-range jumper. Swarthmore added pressure as Tribus stole the ball from Alisyn Narracci.
On the ensuing possession, Tribus dished the ball to Kockenmeister for a long distance shot. The sophomore guard was fouled in the act of shooting the three and knocked down the free-throw to make the score 41-40 Diplomats.
Abigail Pirron grabbed a defensive rebound on a Narracci missed jumper on the other end of the court.
Elizabeth Stiles found Pirron for a jumper at the foul line to give Swarthmore a 42-40 lead. Tribus and Stiles netted baskets as the Diplomats and Garnet landed shots in the third frame. As the third quarter was coming to an end, Nation knocked down a mid-range jumper to give Swarthmore a 49-47 advantage.
The Diplomats opened the scoring in the fourth quarter as Maia Lockhart hit a three-pointer for a 50-49 lead. The Garnet and Diplomats exchanged baskets until Lockhart hit a jumper as F&M took a six point lead. Franklin & Marshall (9-12, 7-9 CC) held off an offensive surge by the Garnet to earn a 62-57 victory.
Nation led the Garnet with 20 points, seven rebounds and one assist. The junior guard was perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Tribus added 10 points, four assist, three rebounds and one steal.
Kockenmeister added 13 points, four rebounds and a steal. The sophomore guard shot 3-of-5 from three-point distance. Stiles contributed six points, while
Christina Holmgren finished with three points. Pirron finished the contest with three rebounds, two points and a steal.
Swarthmore (12-10, 9-8 CC) returns to the court on Wednesday as they travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on Johns Hopkins in a pivotal Centennial Conference game. Currently sitting in fifth place, the Garnet are set to take on the third seeded Blue Jays at 6:00 p.m.
