HAVERFORD, Pa.—No. 1 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball improved to 24-0 with an 86-73 win over Haverford College on the road on Wednesday night.
While Haverford shot 50.9 percent from the floor, the best a Swarthmore opponent has shot all season, the Garnet simply countered with more firepower and sank 54.1 percent of their attempts from the floor.
George Visconti led the Garnet attack with a game-high 20 points while shooting 80 percent from the field (8-of-10). He finished 4-of-6 from 3-point range and added four rebounds and three steals. Visconti's 11.8 points per outing is a team best.
Three other players reached double digits for Swarthmore. Conor Harkins punched in 19 points, Vinny DeAngelo added 14 and Nate Shafer went 5-of-8 to finish with 11 points.
Zac O'Dell just missed the double-double with his nine point, nine rebound performance. He also had four blocks.
Colin Shaw added nine points.
Both teams shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the first half and were deadlocked at 39-39 at the break.
Swarthmore began to pull away with a quick run with a quick 5-0 swing with 12 minutes left from a Visconti trey and a jumper by DeAngelo. The Garnet led 61-51 at that point, their first double-digit advantage.
Haverford stuck around, but Swarthmore really pulled away with a 7-0 run with three minutes to go.
Swarthmore closes out the regular season on Saturday at McDaniel College at 3 p.m.
