Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 1 Garnet Extinguish Red Devils

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 1 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball completed its slate of home regular season games with a perfect record after dousing the Dickinson College Red Devils 96-69 on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet also clinched the top seed in the Centennial Conference postseason with the victory and the right to host the tournament.

Swarthmore is 13-0 at the friendly confines of Tarble Pavilion this year, and the team improved to an immaculate 23-0.

A remarkable 27-point game in just 22 minutes of play from freshman phenom Vinny DeAngelo helped guide the Garnet to the win column yet again. DeAngelo's game-high and career-high output came on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor, while shooting 3-for-3 from the 3-point line and a spotless 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. He also pitched in five rebounds and four assists.

Conor Harkins and Nate Shafer both went 5-for-5 from the stripe and finished with 11 points. Shafer, honored alongside teammate Zac O'Dell for senior day prior to tip-off, had 11 rebounds, two blocks and a steal as well. O'Dell ended up with nine points and 11 rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. The pair of senior bigs combined for 12 offensive rebounds.

Swarthmore crushed Dickinson on the glass, grabbing 49 rebounds to the Red Devils' 23.

The Garnet canned 30-of-34 attempts from the free-throw line, the most this season in a single game.

Dickinson senior guard Bryce Allen did all he could to keep the Red Devils in the game. He finished with 20 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and three steals in 37 minutes.

The Garnet led by 12 in the first half, before a Red Devils run wiped that out. The Red Devils held a three-point lead with four minutes to spare in the first, but Swarthmore closed out the period strongly by sinking a pair of 3-pointers.

As the Garnet have been apt to do this season, they exploded out of halftime and went on an 11-2 run in the first five minutes.

Swarthmore's lead continued to balloon, and Shafer threw down a two-handed dunk with 7:36 left to give Swarthmore a 21-point lead.

With Centennial Conference first-place in the bag, Swarthmore looks to continue its winning ways on Wednesday at Haverford in an 8 p.m. game.
