Garnet Knock Off Shorewomen; Extend Streak to Five

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Swarthmore College Women's Basketball dominated Washington College (Md.), 63-41, in a Centennial Conference matinee on Tuesday.

Swarthmore forced the Shorewomen to call a timeout early in the first quarter as the Garnet held a 7-3 advantage. Washington couldn't find an answer out of the timeout as Dana Bandurick scored inside the paint, and was fouled for a three-point play. The Garnet held the Shorewomen to single digits in the first as Swarthmore held a 17-8 lead.

The second quarter saw the Garnet keep scored 21 points in the frame. Kendall Tribus notched five points and four rebounds in the frame to help Swarthmore to a 38-19 half-time lead. The offense didn't stop there as visitors outscored the Shorewomen, 13-10 in the third frame. The 31-point lead with 6:21 left in the fourth quarter was the largest lead in the game for the Garnet.

Bandurick led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while Kim Kockenmeister added 13 points for the Garnet. Bandurick finished with 14 rebounds, four blocks and a season-high five steals.

Off of ten offensive rebounds, Swarthmore was able to garner 15 second chance points. Swarthmore (7-4, 4-2 CC) notched 18 points off of Washington's (6-6, 3-4 CC) 16 turnovers.

Kockenmeister finished the game shooting 4-of-8 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from distance. Tribus finished the game with eight points, six rebounds, one block and a steal. Elizabeth Stiles added nine points, five rebounds and three assist for the Garnet.

Faith Nation grabbed five rebounds and Abigail Pirron added four boards.

For the first time since the 2015-16 season, the Garnet swept the season series against the Shorewomen. On November 26th, Swarthmore earned a 61-55 victory over Washington (Md.).

Swarthmore extends their win streak to five games, the longest such streak since the 2012-13 season. During the 2012-13 campaign, the Garnet began the season with a seven game winning streak and notched a six game streak from January 10th, 2013 to January 23rd, 2013.

The Garnet travel to Allentown on Thursday to take on Muhlenberg. Swarthmore looks to snap a ten game losing streak to the Mules with tip-off slated for 6:00 p.m.
