Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 1 Garnet Win Big Over Green Terror

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 1 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball built on its program-record win streak by winning consecutive game number 17 on Saturday. The Garnet trounced the visiting McDaniel College Greer Terror in the most lopsided result of the season, 80-44.

McDaniel hung with Swarthmore through the first half, but Swarthmore scored more than twice as many points in the second half as it did in the first half to put the game well out of reach.

Swarthmore shot a blistering 65.5 percent from the floor in the second half after leading 26-21 at the break.

Senior forward Nate Shafer started Swarthmore's second-half outburst by dunking on the opening possession of the half and then scoring the team's first 10 points of the period. Shafer out-scored McDaniel 10-2 in the first three minutes of the second half and finished the game with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Guard George Visconti led Swarthmore with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Visconti gave Swarthmore a huge boost right before halftime by making a successful four-point play with 50 seconds to go and then cashing in on a mid-range jumper before the clock expired. Add on the three-point play from Colin Shaw with 1:52 left in the first half, and the Garnet went on a 21-2 run spanning the halves.

Shaw finished with a gritty 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and had three boards. Vinny DeAngelo pitched in nine points and Zac O'Dell added eight.

Swarthmore found playing time for all 18 members of the squad. Chuck Sweat and Alec White both converted the only field goal they attempted in the final minutes, much to the delight of the home crowd.

The Garnet are back in action on Wednesday at Washington College (5-11, 3-6 Centennial) at 7 p.m.
