Cronin Leads Garnet in Loss to Red Devils

CARLISLE, Pa. – Swarthmore College Women's Basketball dropped a road contest, 68-59, to Centennial foe Dickinson on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet (8-7, 5-5 CC) were outscored by the Red Devils (7-7, 5-4 CC) 21-9 in the first frame. Swarthmore battled back in the second quarter by opening up with a 7-0 run. Erin Cronin opened the scoring with a layup just 19 seconds into the quarter. Less than a minute later, the sophomore blocked an attempted shot by Maura Leverone and came down with the rebound.

On the ensuing possession, Colleen Anderson made a difficult layup and was fouled by Gina Neigel. She converted on the free throw for the three-point play. After Abigial Pirron grabbed the rebound on a missed jumper Kate Deutsch, the senior sent the ball to Dana Bandurick who found Kim Kockenmeister for a fast break layup.

Mid-way through the second quarter, Cronin added another block and rebound as Halie Maeda attempted a layup on the Garnet. Two good free throws from Kockenmeister kept Swarthmore within six points before Jennifer Kremp knocked down a three-pointer as time was expiring.

Swarthmore, only scoring 11 points in the third quarter, outscored Dickinson the fourth quarter 20-13. Bandurick, with the help of Kockenmeister, scored to open the fourth quarter. The Garnet received 14 of its 24 points off the bench in the fourth quarter.

Cronin ended the game with five points, a team-high seven rebounds and two blocks. Kendall Tribus added seven boards and five points, and Anderson netted six points with two rebounds.

Bandurick and Kockenmeister each contributed double digit points for the Garnet. The freshman guard, 14 points, added five boards, three steals and three assist, while Kockenmeister added a team-high 17 points, two assist and a rebound. Pirron, who finished with eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and two steals for Swarthmore.
