Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va.—Swarthmore College Women's Tennis wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule with a solid performance at the ITA Southeast Regional Women's Championship. The Garnet won 14 matches across singles and doubles play.
In the 64-person championship singles bracket, senior
Emma Kassan led the Garnet by advancing all the way to the quarterfinals. Kassan topped Christopher Newport University's Ana-Clara Borga 6-0, 6-4 in the first round. She then followed that up with a 6-2, 6-0 over Randolph's Keyu Jin. In the round of 16, Kassan dropped her first set but then rallied to win sets two and three 6-3, 7-5 over Carnegie Mellon's Lindy Cornwall. Kassan fell in a three-set battle with Carnegie Mellon's Lauren James in the quarterfinals.
Freshman
Jenny Lewis won a pair of three-set matches, beating Irene Meng from Washington College 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 and then defeating Anjali Devireddy from Johns Hopkins 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In championship doubles, Lewis and
Sonia Varma won a match against St. Mary's 8-2. Kassan and
Christina Wang stopped the duo from Wilkes 8-3 in the opening round.
In the B bracket of singles, freshman
Anna Miller was victorious in all four matches and won the group. Miller started off with a 6-0, 6-0 win, followed it up with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals and then won the semifinals in a set third set super tiebreaker.
Miller's opponent in the final was her very own teammate
Grace Dignazio. Dignazio had strung together wins of 7-6, 6-3; 7-5, 6-1; 6-0, 6-1 to make it to the B singles final. Miller came away with the 6-1, 6-4 win.
