SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Softball had a seven-game win streak snapped on Tuesday with a pair of losses against Haverford.
The Garnet (17-10, 5-4) fall to third place in the Centennial Conference standings with seven such games left on their schedule.
Game One: Haverford 5, Swarthmore 2
The Garnet couldn't quite get the bats going in Game 1 as senior
Marit Vike and freshman
Laura Hirai had the team's only hits. Hirai's hit was a triple, and Vike added two stolen bases to the box score.
Freshman
Gwen Glatz and sophomore
Mika Maenaga had Swarthmore's RBIs on sacrifice flies.
The Fords scattered their runs by scoring one in the first, second and seventh inning as well as two in the third.
Garnet sophomore
Maddie Bowe pitched all seven innings and had just two earned runs, but she fell to 5-4 this season.
Haverford had 10 hits and didn't make an error to pick up the win.
Game Two: Haverford 8, Swarthmore 3
Swarthmore allowed four runs in the third and three in the fourth to fall behind 7-1. The Garnet scored their run in the third on a bases-loaded single by sophomore
Lucy Decker.
The Garnet had 10 hits in the loss but could only plate two more runners. Senior
Elizabeth Curcio singled to left field and drove in sophomore
Victoria Overbeck and senior
Hannah Thompson.
Juniors
Kalli Segel and
Gabriella Natoli had two hits apiece for the Garnet.
Glatz entered the circle in relief and pitched 3.1 innings of one-run softball.
Swarthmore takes on McDaniel at Clothier Field in a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
