SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Softball won one and lost one in a doubleheader with Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel at Clothier Field on Saturday.
The Garnet are now 18-11 overall and 7-6 in the Centennial Conference. Swarthmore is alone in fourth place, and five teams make the playoffs. The Garnet have five games remaining on their conference schedule, and they're hoping to earn a playoff spot for the first time since 2010.
Game One: Swarthmore 5, McDaniel 4
Swarthmore fell behind 1-0 in the second inning but battled back with four runs in the third. Freshman
Gwen Glatz drove in two with a single and then she and sophomore
Mika Maenaga both scored on the same wild pitch.
Sophomore
Maddie Bowe pitched all seven innings and earned her sixth win of the season. She had a career-high six strikeouts in the win.
Junior
Gabriella Natoli scored Maenaga on an infield single, and that run proved to be the difference in the contest as the Green Terror scored three in the sixth.
Bowe helped herself out at the plate with a team-high two hits.
Game Two: McDaniel 4, Swarthmore 0
The McDaniel picked up a much-needed win in Game 2, allowing Swarthmore to reach base via hit three times. Senior
Marit Vike had two of Swarthmore's hits, and Natoli had the other.
Sophomore
Lucy Decker pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs. Glatz pitched 1.2 innings out of the bullpen and gave up one run.
Swarthmore will try to keep a hold on its playoff spot with a doubleheader at eighth-place Washington College on Tuesday set to begin at 3 p.m. in Chestertown, Md.
