FREDERICKSBURG, Va.—No. 31 Swarthmore College Men's Tennis challenged the No. 13 University of Mary Washington Eagles indoors on Sunday, a day after battling the No. 23 Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays, and fell by a score of 6-3.
The Garnet were dealt a sweep in doubles action. The Garnet lost 8-2 in first and second doubles. Third doubles with
Simon Vernier and
Evan Han was much closer, but the pair fell 8-6.
Swarthmore had three singles matches go three sets and came away with wins in two of those, second and sixth singles.
Simon Vernier got the win 6-3, 6-4 in fourth singles.
In second singles,
John Lathrop bounced back from a loss in the first set to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.
Evan Han fell behind after his first set in sixth singles but rallied for the 6-2, 7-5 outcome in the next two sets.
Jiung Jung forced a third set in top singles but lost the deciding set 6-4.
Swarthmore (8-11) travels to Maryland on Tuesday to play Washington College at 3:30 p.m.
