Dana Bandurick led the way as Swarthmore College Women's Basketball earned a decisive victory over Immaculata University on Saturday.
Bandurick led all scorers with 29 points as the Garnet defeated the Mighty Macs, 74-51. The freshman opened the scoring just over a minute into the game as she put up an easy lay-up from
Kendall Tribus. The 29 points scored by Badurick is the most scored by a Garnet player since
Jessica Jowdy scored 35 points on February 13th, 2016 against Dickinson.
Swarthmore closed out the first quarter with a 16-14 advantage, and the defense went to work in the second frame. The Mighty Macs were held to only eight points in the second, and shot 18.8% from the field. Shortly into the second quarter, Theresa Kearney went up for a mid-range jumper but was met by Bandurick. Kearney was looking to get the Mighty Macs back to within three, but her jumper was blocked by Bandurick.
The freshman guard recorded a steal and a block in the second frame, as Immaculata turned the ball over five times.
Christina Holmgren added a block for the Garnet.
Swarthmore kept the ball inside as they recorded 40 points inside the paint. Bandurick finished the game 13-of-18 from the floor and grabbed 12 rebounds for the first time in her career. The freshman added five blocks, three steals and three assist. Holmgren finished with four points, eight boards and four assist.
Elizabeth Stiles added nine points, while Tribus and
Erin Cronin each finished with eight points. Stiles finished the game with six assist and one steal for the Garnet.
In the game, Immaculata shot 29.7% from the field including 27.8% from three-point range. Swarthmore received 22 points off the bench and netted 14 second chance points.
The Garnet will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Johns Hopkins in a Centennial Conference match-up at 6:00 p.m.
