Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va.—Swarthmore College Men's Tennis concluded its fall 2019 slate at the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament and racked up 22 wins over the weekend.
Two brackets ended with Swarthmore on top, the B1 Singles and B2 Singles. Freshman John Nichols-Daly, ranked at the top of the bracket, breezed through his first match, but then needed super breakers to win his second and third round matches. Teammate Noah Cheng won each of his first three matches putting him on a collision course with Nichols-Daly for the bracket finale. Nichols-Daly held off Cheng in the all-Swat final 6-2, 6-3. In the B2 Singles bracket, Weiyi Zhu tallied four straight wins, knocking off Salisbury's Ryan Santmyer in the final round.
In championship singles, Noah Criss, John Lathrop and Thibault Vernier each won their opening round matches. Freshman Stephen Wong picked up a win in consolation action.
Jiung Jung and Lathrop earned a win in championship doubles. A walkover win and two more match victories propelled Vernier and Wong into the consolation doubles final. In B1 doubles, Max Gruber and William Teoh recorded an opening round win.
Swarthmore resumes competition on Feb. 15, 2020 with matches against Carnegie Mellon and Cabrini.
