AMBLER, Pa.--Swarthmore College Baseball beat Arcadia 9-2 on Thursday, about one week before the start of the NCAA Division III Baseball Regional Tournaments begin.
Swarthmore is now 33-9 this season and has outdone the previous program record set in 1985 by six wins.
The top-seeded Garnet won their first Centennial Conference Tournament title in team history on Sunday.
On Thursday, the Garnet and Knights were scoreless through the first five inning until junior
Charles Levitt broke the tie with his ninth home run of the season in the sixth . The two-run blast was Levitt's first homer in 13 games, but he's now ahead of junior teammate
Jackson Roberts for the team lead. Both players have beaten the Swarthmore single-season record of six set in 1951 and tied in 2010.
Junior pitcher
Ricky Conti is working on his own record. He picked up his 11th win of the season, expanding his lead on the previous mark of nine set by Joe D'Angelo in 1985. Conti pitched five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out five.
Six of the Garnet runs came in the top of the seventh. Sophomore
AJ Liu started things with a one-run single, junior
Conor Elliott had a bases-loaded-clearing triple, and sophomore
Jared Gillen had an RBI single. The lead was 8-0.
In the top of the eighth, Centennial Conference Tournament MVP sophomore
Cole Beeker chipped in with an RBI single as well.
Levitt, Elliott, Gillen and senior
Matt Palmer all had two hits each.
Swarthmore awaits Monday's selection show to find out who it will face in next week's regional tournament.
