Swarthmore Completes Season Sweep Of Owls

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Basketball overcame an eight-point deficit in the third quarter to top the Bryn Mawr College Owls 61-56 on Thursday night.

Swarthmore picked up its second win over Bryn Mawr this season thanks to some quality play from forwards Audra Woodside, Raina Williams and Christina Holmgren. Woodside scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting, Williams posted 14 points on 6-of-11 attempts and Holmgren went 5-for-8 for 10 points. Woodside added seven rebounds, Williams had nine for a near double-double as did Holmgren.

Those three helped keep possessions alive with a combined 15 offensive rebounds.

Elizabeth Stiles added five points, Bridget Scott went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line for all her points, Isabelle Ewart, Abigail Pirron, and Jayna Jones had two points and Abigail Posta had one.

Swarthmore started out with a 7-0 deficit, but over time, worked its way back into contention. Swarthmore got its first lead at 18-17 with a put-back bucket in the paint from Holmgren.

After falling behind, a 3-pointer from Stiles evened the game at 25-25. Swarthmore went into the break down by two.

However, Swarthmore fell behind by eight points in the third, and trailed by six at the start of the fourth. Williams knocked down a jump shot to spark a 6-0 run to tie the score once again at 47-47.

Later in the fourth quarter, Christina Holmgren hit back-to-back jumpers to put Swarthmore up 59-54 with 1:49 to play. Williams helped seal the win with a big block with just 30 seconds left.

Swarthmore is on the road on Saturday at Johns Hopkins University for the team's third game this week.
