COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Basketball turned things around in the second half at Ursinus College on Tuesday night but couldn't catch up to the Bears. The Garnet out-scored the Bears 37-33 in the second half, but had too large of a first-half deficit to make a comeback.
Ursinus held off Swarthmore 79-53 and held onto sole possession of fifth place in the Centennial Conference.
Senior forward
Bridget Scott scored 10 points and nabbed five rebounds, tied for the team-high in both categories, off the bench for Swarthmore.
Isabelle Ewart added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
Elizabeth Stiles added eight points and four boards.
Hayley Raymond and
Jayna Jones each chipped in seven points.
Raina Williams added six points,
Abigail Pirron had and
Christina Holmgren had two.
The Garnet struggled to protect the ball in the first half leading to 18 turnovers and a 30-point deficit in the break. Ursinus scored 33 points directly off of Swarthmore turnovers throughout the game. Swarthmore cleaned things up in the second half and only committed 11 in the second. The Garnet's shooting percentage jumped from 20 percent in the first half to 44.4 percent in the second half.
Swarthmore plays at home on Thursday in a 7 p.m. game against Bryn Mawr College.
