Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Hoops Can’t Hang on in Second Half

WESTMINSTER, Md.–After a competitive first half, the Swarthmore College women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with the homestanding McDaniel Green Terror and fell 63-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Swarthmore shot 44 percent in the first two quarters and was paced by senior Raina Williams, who totaled eight points behind perfect 4-for-4 shooting. Abigail Pirron and Kendall Tribus each chipped in six and the Garnet narrowly trailed, 33-27, heading into the break. For the game, Williams finished with 12 points while Pirron tallied 10.

In the first quarter, Swarthmore broke a 6-6 tie and led by as many as four points after Pirron converted two free throws and Tribus made a layup. The Terror responded with a 7-0 run to close out the quarter and later led 22-15 in the second.

The Garnet rallied to within one after buckets by Pirron and Hayley Raymond and took the lead back with 3:41 remaining. Williams scored to make it 27-24 for the visitors, but another late run pushed McDaniel ahead. The early goings of the third quarter followed the same script until the Terror opened up and sustained a double-digit lead by capitalizing on Garnet turnovers.

The women's basketball team will head to Puerto Rico for its next two games, the first of which will pit them against Inter San German on Friday, Jan. 12. To follow along with the day-t0-day details of the trip, click here.
