WESTMINSTER, Md.–After a competitive first half, the Swarthmore College women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with the homestanding McDaniel Green Terror and fell 63-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Swarthmore shot 44 percent in the first two quarters and was paced by senior
Raina Williams, who totaled eight points behind perfect 4-for-4 shooting.
Abigail Pirron and
Kendall Tribus each chipped in six and the Garnet narrowly trailed, 33-27, heading into the break. For the game, Williams finished with 12 points while Pirron tallied 10.
In the first quarter, Swarthmore broke a 6-6 tie and led by as many as four points after Pirron converted two free throws and Tribus made a layup. The Terror responded with a 7-0 run to close out the quarter and later led 22-15 in the second.
The Garnet rallied to within one after buckets by Pirron and
Hayley Raymond and took the lead back with 3:41 remaining. Williams scored to make it 27-24 for the visitors, but another late run pushed McDaniel ahead. The early goings of the third quarter followed the same script until the Terror opened up and sustained a double-digit lead by capitalizing on Garnet turnovers.
