GETTYSBURG, Pa.—After a close first half, Swarthmore College Men's Basketball pulled away in the second half to beat the Gettysburg College Bullets 78-64 on the road on Saturday. The No. 11 Garnet got the separation they needed with a 9-0 run that started five minutes into the second half.
A
Cam Wiley 3-pointer sparked that run, and the junior guard finished with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Wiley also chipped in four assists and three rebounds.
Senior
Zack Yonda posted 16 points, going 4-of-8 from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Yonda is back to shooting above 90 percent with a 90.5 percent mark on the season.
Conor Harkins connected on 4-of-7 3-pointers to finish with 16 points.
Zac O'Dell came close to a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.
Nate Shafer returned to action for the first time since the Franklin & Marshall game on Jan. 13 and had four rebounds and four points.
The first half was back-and-forth. Gettysburg led by two with 5:19 to go, but Shafer scored a layup to tie the score for the fourth time that period. Triples from
Jim Lammers and Wiley in the final four minutes of the half helped Swarthmore cling to a one-point lead going into halftime.
Swarthmore led by two in the second half and started a 9-0 run five minutes into the period.
Robbie Walsh capped the run with a fastbreak layup to make it a 46-35 game with 12:36 to play.
Swarthmore's lead stayed at double-digits for all but 12 seconds of the final eight minutes.
The Garnet travel to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. game.
