MAYAGUEZ, P.R.–The Swarthmore College women's basketball team began its trip to Puerto Rico with a resounding 53-39 win over the Universidad Interamericana, San Germán Tigresas on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Hayley Raymond poured in a career-high 18 points on 50 percent shooting (7-for-14) and classmate
Raina Williams finished with 10 in that category.
Abigail Pirron directed the offense behind seven assists while Williams and
Bridget Scott led all players with nine rebounds apiece.
The Garnet won the battle on the glass by a resounding 57-32 margin and converted 14 offensive boards into 15 second chance points. Swarthmore's defense limited the Tigresas to 25.9 percent from the field, which included a 21 percent mark in the second frame. Swarthmore also held a 28-14 advantage in bench points to provide a balanced attack.
Swarthmore started the game strong with 18 points in the first quarter while shooting 50 percent overall. Inter San German regained ground in the second quarter, but the second half belonged to the Garnet as they outscored their opponents 23-18 in the final two frames.
The women's basketball team continues play tomorrow, Friday Jan. 12 with a game against an opponent yet to be announced. The contest will also take place on the campus of University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
