Men's Soccer Soars Past Rosemont

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer earned its first win of 2017, topping the Rosemont College Ravens 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Garnet peppered Rosemont's goalkeeper with 15 shots on goal and took 29 shots throughout the course of the contest. Swarthmore went ahead in the 15th minute with a well-executed goal by freshman Conor Gill. Felix Laniyan led the restart from the left wing, sent the ball into the box on the right side, finding the head of Jason Meuth. Meuth tapped the header pass to Gill in the middle who used the sole of his foot to tap the shot in around the goalie.

Laniyan tallied a goal in the 20th minute, cleaning up after a short corner play. Laniyan ran in near the 18 and fired a low shot through traffic for the goal.

Omodaya Origunwa plunked a shot off the crossbar in the 43rd minute, but the Garnet would get goal number three in the 62nd minute.

Kenny Gwon sent a deep cross into the box that Rosemont's goalie attempted to parry, but Aidan Stoddard recovered the loose ball and tapped the shot home for the 3-0 advantage.

The Ravens hung a goal on the board in the 66th minute with a strike from Josh Dawicki.

Swarthmore returns to Clothier Field on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to host Widener University.
