SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Junior Marin McCoy scored both of Swarthmore's goals in Wednesday night's 3-2 loss against Arcadia University and broke the school's all-time record in points in the process.
McCoy, in two and a half seasons with the Garnet (52 games played), has tallied up 98 career points off of 37 goals and 24 assists. Her record passes Emma Sindelar's mark set in 2014 and she is closing in on Sindelar's career goals record of 38.
The Garnet went ahead first, scoring in the 18th minute off a corner kick. After having a pair of shots saved, the Garnet earned a corner kick. Claire O'Brien sent the ball in, her pass hugging the end line, and found Seneca Kinn-Gurzo. Kinn-Gurzo tapped the ball back central to McCoy who scored with her right foot on a low bouncer.
Arcadia tied the score up less than two minutes into the second half. McCoy nearly scored a head when she played a corner kick off her body and then off the cross bar. Her second goal did arrive shortly thereafter. In the 56th minute, Hannah Lichtenstein sent McCoy on a run with a nice pass from the backfield. McCoy went on the fastbreak to the goal and fired far post from about 10 yards for her second of the night.
The Garnet tallied eight other shots on goal with three from Lichtenstein, two from O'Brien, two from Katie Dougherty and one from Lizzie King.
In goal for the Garnet, Amy Shmoys recorded four saves.
No. 10 Swarthmore dipped to 8-2 with the loss while Arcadia improved to 6-4. Swarthmore hosts Franklin & Marshall College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
