Saturday's setback was the first of the season for the Garnet (8-1, 2-1 Centennial). McDaniel improved to 7-1 and 3-0 in conference.
The Garnet tallied 18 total shots, but McDaniel goalkeeper Sarah McDonald recorded seven saves. The home team recorded 11 shots and five on goal.
McDaniel jumped to a 2-0 lead after goals in the 14th and 18th minutes.
Lichtenstein put the Garnet on the board in the 30th minute, scoring on a one-timer following a cross from freshman
Lizzie King. However McDaniel regained a two-goal lead with a score in the 36th minute.
The Garnet had a pair of shots on goal early in the second half and found the back of the net in the 59th minute. Lichtenstein scored her second goal of the contest and her fourth of the season.
McDaniel responded with a goal following a corner kick in the 67th minute.
Down by two, the Garnet resolved to keep fighting, and McCoy tallied her 10th goal of the season, pulling the Garnet within one with eight minutes to go.
The Garnet had a chance to tie in the 84th minute, but the shot went off the crossbar and McDaniel hung on to take the game.
Swarthmore is back in action with a home non-conference game against Arcadia on Wednesday.
