MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--In the first of two trips to Connecticut for Swarthmore College Men's Soccer this year, the Garnet fell 2-1 to the Wesleyan College Cardinals on Saturday evening.
All three goals came in the first 22 minutes of action. The Cardinals found the back of the net in the 10th and 17th minutes, but the Garnet responded with a goal of their own in the 22nd minute. Freshman
Conor Gill scored his second goal of the season to pull the Garnet within a goal. Gill collected a blocked shot and buried it for the score.
Two of the Garnet's best chances to tie the game were a pair of shots aimed for the upper right corner of the goal.
Michael Nafziger had a screamer of a shot in the 29th sail just over the corner and out, and then
Trevor Homstad's attempt for the same vicinity was saved in the 88th minute.
Swarthmore goalie
Oliver Steinglass recorded a pair of saves and the Garnet defense made a stop following a corner kick in the 16th minute.
Swarthmore, now 2-2 on the year, plays at Eastern University on Wednesday. The Garnet will return to the state of Connecticut on Sept. 20 when they take on Connecticut College.
