BALTIMORE--Back in the Centennial Conference Championship for the first time since the 2013 season, No. 40 Swarthmore College Women's Tennis had to battle No. 14 Johns Hopkins University for the league title on Sunday.
The young Garnet squad fell 5-0 as Hopkins won its 11th consecutive conference championship.
Emma Kassan and
Anna Scheibmeir won three games in the top-doubles flight but ultimately fell 8-3. Hopkins took the next two doubles matches 8-1.
The third and fifth singles matches went final with
Shirline Wee falling 6-1, 6-2 and
Arya Jemal slipping 6-1, 6-0. With the match being played to decision, the remaining singles matches went unfinished.
The Garnet finish the 2016-17 campaign with a 12-6 record. Swarthmore graduates one senior,
Alli Wong, and looks to continue to climb in the national rankings next season with a strong returning class.
