SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The 40th-ranked Swarthmore College women's tennis team shut out the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats by a 5-0 score to advance to the Centennial Conference finals on Saturday, May 6.
The Garnet swept doubles with a pair of hard-fought battles at the first and second spots.
Emma Kassan and
Anna Scheibmeir won 9-7 at no. 1 and
Alli Wong and
Maria Cuervo erased a 4-7 deficit with five consecutive games, rallying for a 9-7 victory.
Arya Jemal and
Vivien Fernandez got things started on the right foot with an 8-3 rout at the third spot.
In singles,
Shirline Wee was the first one off the court with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at third singles while Kassan followed suit with an identical score at the top spot to end the match. Wong was two games away from a win of her own at no. 4 and Fernandez was up a set at the second spot. Jemal led 5-0 on court six after her match was delayed by court conditions.
The Garnet will face either Haverford or Johns Hopkins in tomorrow's final, which will take place on the campus of the highest remaining seed at 3 p.m.
