BOX SCORE
SWARTHMORE, Pa.–In a showdown for the top seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference, the 40th-ranked Swarthmore College women's tennis team fell by an 8-1 score to the No. 14 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays on Saturday, April 29.
Swarthmore picked up a point at first doubles behind a gritty performance from
Emma Kassan and
Anna Scheibmeir. Facing an All-American duo that won the championship doubles at the ITA Regional in the fall, the Swarthmore pair saved several match points and triumped by a 9-8(9) score as the Garnet trailed 2-1 entering singles.
Johns Hopkins took all six courts to provide the final margin.
Shirline Wee overcame a deficit to force a third set, but ultimately fell by a 2-6, 6-3, 1-6 score.
Swarthmore has secured the second seed in the Centennial Conference postseason and will face off against Franklin & Marshall next Saturday for a chance at the crown and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
