SWARTHMORE, Pa.–Needing a win to secure home-court advantage for the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament, the 31st-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team fell by a 7-2 score to Johns Hopkins on Saturday, April 29.
Swarthmore narrowly avoided the doubles sweep as
Mark Fallati and
Josh Powell lost 8-9(3) at the top spot.
John Larkin and
Blake Oetting battled at no. 3 before falling 6-8.
In singles, senior
John Larkin picked up his 100th career victory after his opponent retired due to injury early in the match. At fifth singles,
Ari Cepelewicz picked up Swarthmore's second win with a gutsy, 7-5, 7-6(6) battle.
Swarthmore is the second seed and will host Haverford next Saturday, May 5 as Johns Hopkins will host both men's and women's tennis tournaments, necessitating a second location for one of the semifinal matches.
