Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

BACK TO THE POSTSEASON: Garnet Reach Centennial Tournament

HAVERFORD, Pa.—For the second time in program history, and the second time in as many years, Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse is bound for the Centennial Conference postseason. Just like last season, the Garnet propelled themselves into the tournament with an overtime win against Washington College on Wednesday followed by a one-goal win against Haverford College on Saturday to close out the season. This time, Swarthmore advanced to the postseason by topping Haverford 11-10 and getting the help it needed from Dickinson College who beat Ursinus College on the road 10-9 in overtime.

Swarthmore returns to the postseason as the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded Franklin & Marshall College on the road on Wednesday.

The Garnet unleashed secret-weapon Sam Sokota on Saturday. Sokota, who hadn't played since Feb. 27, 2016, scored twice, including the game-winning goal with two seconds remaining.

Sokota's first goal, scored with 1:43 remaining in the first half put Swarthmore ahead 9-5. However, the Fords rallied for five straight goals and led 10-9 with 1:47 remaining in the game.

Swarthmore won the ensuing faceoff with senior Stephen Ducey gathering the ground ball. The Garnet fired a shot just under the minute mark but had it blocked. Dylan Rittenhouse gathered the ground ball and then dumped in his third goal of the game with just 24 seconds remaining.

With overtime pending, Ducey won the next faceoff with Eric Levin swooping in to secure the ground ball. The Garnet called timeout with seven seconds remaining and drew up a final play. Five seconds later, junior Cam Marsh located Sam Sokota who buried the game-winner.

In addition to the five goals scored between Rittenhouse and Sokota, Austin Chang added a pair of goals, and Alex Mandel, Jack Belluche, Graham Lesko and Nathaniel Johns all scored.

Swarthmore finished with a slight advantage in the faceoff category, 13-11.

In goal, senior Cole Fox recorded nine saves.

Swarthmore's first-round game in the Centennial Conference tournament at Franklin & Marshall will be on Wednesday at a to-be determined time.
