SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Elizabeth Wainwright and Briana Narzikul each recorded hat tricks for Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse in the Garnet's overtime battle with the visiting Washington College Shorewomen. The Garnet scored twice in the final seven minutes to catch the Shorewomen and force overtime.
Swarthmore trailed 5-1 22 minutes into the first half. Washington goalie Haylee Solomon recorded eight of her 13 saves in the first half. Swarthmore finally started to get past Solomon with some regularity with a goal by Wainwright that came 11 seconds after a Shorewomen goal.
Narzikul scored the opening goal of the second half, 1:45 into the period, and then scored again two minutes later. Freshman Sydnie Schwarz followed with a goal at 22:20 to pull Swarthmore within one, 6-5. The Shorewomen got one back, but Narzikul completed her hat trick with 17:33 remaining. Wainwright ripped in a goal with 9:36 to go and Swarthmore tied the score for the first time since 1-1 (24:39/first half).
Washington's Emily Pantazes struck for two goals with eight minutes and change remaining to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.
After Andie Battin won the following draw control, Wainwright completed her hat trick. She then set up Tess Wild, who finished with two goals, for crafty tap-in in front of the net with 5:29 remaining that evened the score at 9-9.
The contest proceeded to overtime and after 5:39 of action, Washington's Kristy Grovom found an opening and scored the sudden victory goal.
Betsy Cohen recorded nine saves for the Garnet in the overtime loss.
Swarthmore concludes the regular season on Saturday at Haverford College.
