HAVERFORD, Pa.–With a 6-3 win over the Haverford College Fords, the 40th-ranked Swarthmore College women's tennis team extended its conference win streak to nine matches on Wednesday, April 26.
Like their counterparts on the men's tennis team, the Garnet will face off against Johns Hopkins to determine top seed and home court during the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament. That decisive match will take place on Saturday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m.
In doubles,
Emma Kassan and
Alli Wong cruised to an 8-1 win at the top spot and the duo of
Arya Jemal and
Julia Gokhberg triumphed 8-4 at no. 3 for a 2-1 lead entering singles.
Swarthmore won the top three courts in short order as it clinched the match. Kassan rolled in a 6-0, 6-2 rout while
Shirline Wee mirrored her score with a 6-2, 6-0 result of her own. Gokhberg clinched at no. 3 behind a 6-1, 6-3 win before
Audrey Haring won 6-4, 6-2 at the fifth spot.
Arya Jemal battled, but ultimately fell 6-7(5), 6-7(2) in fourth singles.
The Garnet welcome 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins to Faulkner Courts on Saturday for a showdown to determine to the top seed in the conference.
