SWARTHMORE, Pa.--Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse fought off the McDaniel College Green Terror on Saturday afternoon 12-8, earning a Centennial Conference win while celebrating senior day. The Garnet honored senior
Briana Narzikul before the contest. She scored two goals and had three free position shots, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Elizabeth Wainwright led Swarthmore with five goals, upping her season total to 48.
Tess Wild added a pair of goals as did
Sophie Peipher.
Taylor Chiang scored a goal as well. Wild recorded half of Swarthmore's 10 draw controls and also had three assists and a pair of ground balls.
Betsy Cohen recorded seven saves in the win.
Swarthmore converted five of their 10 free-position shots on Saturday, shooting well above their season average (31.5 percent entering Saturday).
Swarthmore jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first 11 minutes. Narzikul netted the Garnet's first goal, a free-position score, with 28:14 to play in the first. Four of Swarthmore's first six goals came off of free-position attempts.
With 10:18 to play in the first, the Garnet went ahead 7-3 after Wild tossed a pass from the x over the goal to a leaping Wainwright who finished for the dunk at the goal mouth.
The Green Terror clawed within two goals by halftime. In the second half, back-to-back goals from Wainwright and Peipher gave Swarthmore some separation--a 10-6 lead with 19:39 to play.
Wainwright scored twice more in the final 15 minutes to lock up the win.
The Garnet beat McDaniel for the first time since 2012.
Conference play continues for the Garnet at home on Wednesday against Washington College.
