SWARTHMORE, Pa.–April showers forced the 27th-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team indoors, but the change of venue did not phase the Garnet as they earned a 7-2 victory over the visiting Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats on Saturday, April 22.
The Dips gave the Garnet a battle in doubles as the hosts came out with a 2-1 edge. The second double pair of
Thomas Vernier and
Ari Cepelewicz won 8-6 while top doubles duo
Mark Fallati and
Josh Powell came all the way back from a 4-7 deficit for a 9-8(5) triumph over their opponents.
Fallati earned a second win with a 6-1, 6-3 result at no. 1 and
John Larkin moved closer to 100 career wins with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at the second spot.
Simon Vernier clinched the match by topping his opponent, 7-5, 6-3 as
Josh Powell fought hard for a 7-5, 6-1 win at the fourth spot. In sixth singles,
Michael Song breezed to an 8-1 victory in a pro set.
Swarthmore travels to rival Haverford on Tuesday, April 25 at 4 p.m. as it looks for its eighth consecutive win against Centennial foes.
