BABSON PARK, Mass.–Competing in the Nor'Easter Bowl, the 40th-ranked Swarthmore College women's team topped the Babson College Beavers by an 8-1 count on Friday, April 14.
The Garnet opened the afternoon with a doubles sweep, its sixth in its last seven matches.
Emma Kassan and
Anna Scheibmeir won 8-4 at the top spot while
Maria Cuervo and
Alli Wong triumphed by an identical score at no. 2. The third doubles pair of
Vivien Fernandez and
Julia Gokhberg had a tougher time, but still won out by an 8-6 count.
In singles action, Gokhberg blanked her opponent entirely at the fourth spot and Wong clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 rout at fifth singles. Fernandez won 6-3, 6-3 at second singles and
Arya Jemal overcame a 2-5 margin in the second set for a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Lastly,
Shirline Wee rallied after dropping the first set, ultimately claiming a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(8) win.
The women's tennis team concludes action at the Nor'Easter Bowl when it takes on host Wellesley on Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. The Blue were ranked 33rd in the ITA Division III poll published as of this writing.
