SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College softball team dropped a pair of games to the visiting Haverford College Fords on Thursday, April 13. The Garnet were blanked by 2-0 and 5-0 scores.
In game one, Swarthmore limited Haverford to five hits, but were able to muster just three of their own. The visiting Fords scored both of their markers in the bottom of the first and were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
In the second, the Garnet put two runners in scoring position as
Emily Barranca led off with a walk and
Elizabeth Curcio singled and they eventually reached second and third, respectively. Swarthmore, however, was unable to plate a run as they continued to trail.
In the fifth,
Kalli Segel singled and was replaced on a fielder's choice by
Gabriella Natoli, who stole one her two bases in the doubleheader. With one out and Natoli in scoring position, Swarthmore grounded out twice to end the inning.
Neither team was able to score a run in the nightcap until the Fords took advantage of three hits and a passed ball to put a run on the board.
Kennedy Kings started off the inning with and single and reached second on a sac bunt before being stranded at the end of the inning. The Fords pounced on three Garnet miscues in the next inning for another run and tacked on three in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Marisa Mancini hit a double in the game for the Garnet's lone extra-base hit.
Swarthmore looks to rebound when it hosts Franklin & Marshall for a conference doubleheader at 1 and 3 pm on Saturday, April 15.
