SWARTHMORE, Pa.–It was a beautiful day for tennis as the 40th-ranked Swarthmore College Garnet (7-3, 6-0 CC) earned an 8-1 win over the visiting Washington College Shorewomen on Wednesday, April 12.
The Garnet remain undefeated against Centennial Conference opponents at 6-0 and have only dropped two courts in those matches.
Against Washington, Swarthmore took a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Alli Wong and
Maria Cuervo won 8-3 at the second spot while the duo of
Rachel Bronkema and
Ashley Gao triumphed by an identical score at no. 3.
The Garnet swept singles, dropping only one set in the process. Wong and
Arya Jemal blanked their opponents at fifth and sixth, respectively, while
Julia Gokhberg was nearly perfect with a 6-0, 6-1 result at no. 4.
Emma Kassan had a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot while
Shirline Wee battled to a 6-4, 6-4 victory in third singles.
Vivien Fernandez pushed her match to three sets after dropping the first and ultimately triumphed by a 1-6, 6-2, 1-0(6) count.
Swarthmore begins Nor'Easter Bowl action this weekend at Wellesley with a match against Babson College on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m.
