SWARTHMORE, Pa.–Freshman ace
Sawyer Lake extended his shutout streak to 22 innings as he struck out 10 in a 10-0 blanking of the Muhlenberg Mules on Wednesday, April 12.
The Garnet offense continued its hot streak with 19 hits, including a three-run homer by
Conor Elliott, his second long ball of the season.
Elliott,
Wesley Fishburn,
Charles Levitt,
Cole Beeker and
Max Grullon all collected three hits with Beeker and Grullon roping two doubles in the game. Fishburn and Elliott also had a trio of runs as Levitt crossed the plate twice as well.
AJ Liu finished with two hits, including a double.
Similar to its 12-2 win over Washington, Swarthmore jumped out to a quick start with four runs in the first inning. Levitt singled and later reached third on a base hit by Fishburn, who stole second to move into scoring position. Elliott drove in Levitt and a double by Beeker cleared the bases for a 3-0 lead. Grullon brought in his classmate with a double of his own on a 3-1 count.
Lake retired the side in order in the second before the offense put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the frame. With two down, Levitt doubled and Fishburn followed up with a single. Elliott plated yet another run and Beeker scored Fishburn as the Garnet led 6-0. A wild pitch allowed Elliott to cross for his second run of the day.
Lake continued to work through the Mules' lineup and allowed only one runner to reach second base or beyond. Elliott completed the scoring for Swarthmore with a two-out, three-run blast to left field in the sixth.
The Garnet will look to complete the series sweep on Friday, April 14 when they travel to Allentown to take on the Mules at 3:30 p.m.
