SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The 37th-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team upheld its perfect mark against Centennial Conference foes with an 8-1 win over Washington College on Tuesday, April 11.
In doubles, the regionally-ranked pair of
Mark Fallati and
Josh Powell claimed an 8-2 win over their opponents at the first spot while the duo of
John Larkin and
Blake Oetting rallied from an early to deficit to capture an 8-6 win at third doubles.
Powell rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 walkover at fourth singles while
Ari Cepelewicz followed up with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth flight. Sixth singles player
Michael Song cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win while Fallati triumphed by a 6-1, 6-2 score.
Simon Vernier went the distance at third singles, grinding out a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0(5) battle. Lastly, Larkin had an absolute battle at second singles and eventually edged his opponent by a 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 1-0(6) count as he won nine of the last 10 points in the super tiebreaker.
Swarthmore will face a significant road test on Saturday, April 15 when it faces Amherst, the 14th ranked team in the ITA poll as of this writing. The match is scheduled for noon.
