SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The No. 37 Swarthmore College men's tennis team made quick work of the visiting Dickinson Red Devils on Saturday, April with a 9-0 sweep that lasted just over two hours.
The Garnet started off strong by dropping only two games across three doubles courts. The third doubles team of
John Larkin and
Blake Oetting won 8-0 while the first doubles pair of
Mark Fallati and
Josh Powell cruised to an 8-1 victory as
Thomas Vernier and
Ari Cepelewicz won by an identical score at the second spot.
In singles,
Kevin Xu was the first one off the court after a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of his opponent at sixth singles. Cepelewicz notched a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the fourth spot and Fallati routed his foe, 6-1, 6-0.
Yosuke Higashi faced little resistance in a 6-0, 6-2 triumph and Larkin won with similar ease by a 6-2, 6-1 count.
Simon Vernier rounded out the chilly afternoon with a 6-4, 6-1 win.
Swarthmore faces a pair of opponents on the road on Sunday, April 2. The Garnet will face McDaniel and No. 16 Mary Washington.
