SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College men's tennis team opened the Centennial Conference portion of its season with a 9-0 win over the visiting Ursinus College Bears on Tuesday, March 28.
The Garnet swept doubles and dropped only one set in singles play.
Mark Fallati and
Simon Vernier won 8-4 at first doubles while the duo of
John Larkin and
Blake Oetting cruised to an 8-2 victory at the third spot. The second doubles pair of
Ari Cepelewicz and
Thomas Vernier held on for an 8-6 win to round out the sweep.
At sixth singles,
Evan Han blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0 while Larkin and
Thomas Vernier each had 6-1, 6-1 wins at nos. two and five respectively.
Simon Vernier earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the third spot while Cepelewicz won, 6-2, 6-4 in the fourth singles flight. Fallati prevailed in a third-set super tiebreaker with a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(6) overall score.
Swarthmore continues conference play at home with a match against Dickinson College on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m.
